FUTURE ISLANDS
12 JUL . Palco Heineken .
Future Islands are the first major confirmation for the Heineken Stage at NOS Alive ’25, on July 12. The American band will perform on the festival’s final day, delivering an unmissable concert filled with their characteristic energy.
With a new album in hand, Future Islands present People Who Aren’t There Anymore, an absorbing saga that transforms pain into hope in the triumph of their career. Over 44 minutes, the album reveals enthusiasm, devastation, understanding, and the first rays of redemption – a record that finally captures all the intensity of Future Islands on tape.
From the beginning, the Baltimore-based band has been unique and instantly recognizable. Samuel T. Herring’s raw, emotive vocals, backed by Gerrit Welmers’ melodies and driven by the rhythms of William Cashion and Michael Lowry, form the foundation of Future Islands. This essence remains in People Who Aren’t There Anymore, but the people have changed. There’s a pain and a joy in Herring’s voice that had previously only been matched by the band’s legendary live performances, never captured in studio albums until now, finally seeming to be set free.
Future Islands have already performed over 1,500 shows – performances that have worn bodies, strained vocal cords, provided a safe place for audiences, and healed the artists themselves. People Who Aren’t There Anymore is a landmark work from a band at a turning point: they are discovering new ways to experience the world, as the old ones no longer worked. This newfound freedom has resulted in their most complete and transparent statement in 17 years of their career, which will arrive at NOS Alive ’25 on July 12.
