Angel Olsen is the first confirmation for the Heineken Stage at NOS Alive’23. The American singer-songwriter performs on the day July 8, 2023, of the 15th edition of the festival. The artist comes to Portugal to present her new album at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, Big Time was recently considered one of the 10 best albums of 2022 by Time magazine.
Big Time é um álbum sobre o poder expansivo de um novo amor, escrito durante a época em que Olsen assumia-se como queer e tendo a sua primeira experiência de amor e desgosto queer. But this brightness and optimism is tempered by a deep and layered sense of loss; Olsen’s parents passed away weeks apart, shortly after the artist took over for them.
The album recorded and mixed with co-producer Jonathan Wilson in Topanga, California proves that Olsen now writes to us from a more rooted place of clarity. While their previous album, All Mirrors, was full of dramatic changes and twists, here the surprises come in simple form – a slow crescendo of chords, instrumentals that swirl like a storm, or bright horns in a ballad about separation flooded with light. These are songs not only about transformational grief but also about finding freedom and joy in the obstacles that arise.
The last day of the festival thus hosts Angel Olsen’s concert on the Heineken Stage, with a concert that promises to be memorable.
