Sam Smith is the new confirmation of July 8th for the NOS Stage at the 15th edition of NOS Alive’23.
From their debut album, In The Lonely Hour, Sam Smith has amassed numerous achievements, such as 35 million albums and 250 million singles sold, 45 billion streams, four Grammys, three BRITs, six MOBOs, one Golden Globe, one Oscar, two No. 1 albums, five No. 1 singles, two No. 1 singles as a guest vocalist (“La, La, La” by Naughty Boy in 2013 and “Promises” by Calvin Harris featuring Jessie Reyez in 2018).
Gloria‘s new album, due out January 27, 2023, is a different kind of achievement that doesn’t get caught up in the numbers game. It’s a dazzling, sophisticated, unexpected sound, and sometimes also the very chilling sound of your creative heart these days. It’s a mosaic-like album, with a diversity that explores various musical genres, of which a trio of female voices from around the world are part: the Colombian/Canadian R&B star, Jessie Reyez the German/Americankitsch-pop icon trans, Kim Petras, and the Jamaican reggae of Koffee.
Gloria finds herself in a kind of pop album that is also in itself progressive pop art, from a pioneering, defiant, last-generation pop star to be proud of. “There’s expertise in what I do, truth, and a real, proper expression” says Sam Smith. “Is it my Diva album? I believe so! I think I finally let my Gloria out.”
“Love Me More” and “Unholy” are the singles that precede this new album and take Smith even further away from the melodic style he has accustomed his fans with. Their latest single, “Unholy” has become a viral megahit that has reached the top of the charts and already has a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
The NOS Stage hosts Sam Smith’s show on the last day of NOS Alive, in the year it celebrates its 15th edition. Tickets are available here.
