Bright Eyes are the latest confirmation for the 17th edition of NOS Alive. The American band founded by Conor Oberst will perform for the first time in Portugal on July 12 at the festival’s Heineken Stage.
Five Dice, All Threes is the band’s new and 10th studio album, which almost three decades after its inception is still one of the benchmarks of American indie rock. With collaborations with Cat Power, Matt Berninger from The National and Alex Orange Drink from The So So Glos, the album, produced by the band themselves and recorded at Mike and Conor’s ARC studio in Omaha, Nebraska, is of a rare intensity and tenderness, a collective exorcism and a personal exploration. The trio formed by Conor, Mike and Nate continues to operate in large, distinct movements: each one unique in sound and narrative, but always guided by a growing ambition and emotional intensity. Even with this rich history, the new songs convey a visceral emotion like nothing they’ve attempted.
As usual with Bright Eyes’ work, the music is loaded with subliminal messages that invite attentive listening – a characteristic touch from a band that has always treated the creation of an album as a work of art. In the new songs, the trio embraces the elusive quality that has made them so enduring and influential across generations and genres, bringing Omaha’s intimate sound to devoted audiences worldwide. In Conor’s compositions, there is a promise that our loneliest thoughts and feelings can take on grandiose forms when shared among friends, amplified on speakers or sung among crowds.
In Five Dice, All Threes, Bright Eyes celebrate these beliefs with vibrant music, as if we were all in the room with them, shouting together and gaining the strength to move forward. It’s not just a return to the classic Bright Eyes sound; it’s also a glimpse into the band’s future.
Bright Eyes’ big debut on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés is scheduled for July 12, on the Heineken Stage at NOS Alive’25. Tickets are available here.
