Dead Poet Society is an American rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2013. Composed of Jack Underkofler (vocals, guitar), Jack Collins (guitar), Dylan Brenner (bass guitar) and Will Goodroad (drums), they started out independently in a process of self-producing and self-recording their songs, including their two critically acclaimed EPs. In a 2016 interview with Beyond The Stage Magazine, lead singer Jack Underkofler described the band’s sound as “heavy indie rock” in a contrast between heavy, down-tuned guitar riffs with soft, pop-tinged choruses and verses. That same year, their music was discovered by the influential Mexican YouTube channel Pepe Problemas, catching the attention of another up-and-coming rock band, Sputnik, who invited them as a support band on their national tour of Mexico.

Over the next two years, the band toured Mexico several times, building a strong fan base. Their US debut came in 2018, when Spotify’s editorial team added the single “American Blood” to their playlists after the band had built up a strong organic following on social media and streaming platforms. Josh Katz, from the band Badflower, was an early fan of the band, particularly of the song “CoDA”, which he championed with his label Big Machine among others, resulting in interest from several labels, including Spinefarm, where they later signed a contract and released their debut album -!- in 2021. The band began touring in their own name, selling out more than 1,000 venues and playing the main stages of the biggest festivals around the world.
