Lil Nas X is the new confirmation for the NOS Stage on July 7th of the 15th edition of NOS Alive. This is the award-winning artist’s debut in Portugal.
Rapper, singer and songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia, Lil Nas X is already dubbed as “an internationally recognized phenomenon” by Billboard magazine.
It was in 2019 that he was catapulted to international stardom with the release of “Old Town Road”, which would become a turning point in the music industry – shattering gender conceptions and norms, topping the charts and becoming viral all over the world. Then can Billy Ray Cyrus’ remix of the song, which became the longest-running #1 in Billboard Hot 100 history with 19 consecutive weeks at the top of the chart. As if that weren’t enough, it was also awarded 16x Platinum making it the most certified song in RIAA history, and is recognized with numerous awards including two GRAMMYs®.
After his eclectic EP 7 , with the singles “Panini” (6x Platinum) and “Rodeo” (2x Platinum), came the cultural-shifting hit in March 2021, “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”. The queer anthem that sparked much-needed debate around the world, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 and stayed on top of Spotify’s Global Chart for over a month. In September of that same year, his debut album, Montero, was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2022 GRAMMYs® and highly acclaimed by critics.
The album was included on multiple Best of 2021 lists by Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, People, USA Today, Billboard, LA Times, Complex and more for “its genre-stretching approach and refreshingly honest exploration of love and loneliness” as told by Variety. The platinum-certified album also gifted us with “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow (4x Platinum), which only further cemented Nas X’s superstar status, reaching No. 1 on Top 40 radio and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “That’s What I Want” became Nas X third consecutive number 1 song on Top 40 radio.
At just 23 years old, 11 GRAMMY® nominations, two of which won, and holder of several records, Lil Nas X is one of the most groundbreaking artists of the moment, that will perform, for the first time in Portugal, on the NOS Stage at NOS Alive’23 – a show that will be nothing less than memorable.
