Buraka Som Sistema are the first major confirmation for NOS Alive’26, with an exclusive and unique show in Portugal. The group returns from their hiatus in 2016, when they last performed in public in the gardens of the Belém Tower in Lisbon. The Portuguese band with the most international recognition will return to the stage for a unique performance in Portugal next year.
Branko, Riot, Conductor, Kalaf and Blaya come together on stage for a performance that revisits the group’s iconic albums such as From Buraka to the World (2006), Black Diamond (2009), Komba (2011) e Buraka (2014). The Portuguese band’s work includes iconic songs such as “Hangover (BaBaBa)”, “Kalemba (Wegue Wegue)”, “Sound of Kuduro”, “Yah” and “Stoopid”, among many others, which together form part of the imagery of a band that has always imprinted a cultural angle on its work and which has definitively transformed the music scene in Portugal over the last 20 years.
Buraka Som Sistema have won over international audiences and critics. Articles in prestigious international media reveal this: New York Times, Pitchfork, Billboard, Clash, The Guardian, New Musical Express, The Line of the Best Fit, Globo and El Pais, among others. The 70 million views on the band’s official YouTube mirror their recognition on Portuguese soil but also abroad. In fact, the band’s official documentary, entitled “Off The Beaten Track” (2013), was premiered at the renowned London Film Festival.
NOS Alive once again lived up to its signature “The Best Line-up. Ever!”, with two sold-out days (July 10 and 12) in this, its 17th edition. Olivia Rodrigo, Muse, Justice, Benson Boone, Girl in Red, Anyma and Nine Inch Nails gave performances on the NOS Stage that will live long in the memory.
The Heineken Stage was also the stage for memorable moments such as Glass Animals’ long-awaited concert, Barry Can’t Swim’s performance, Finneas’ debut, St. Vincent’s show, the contagious energy of Amyl and the Sniffers and Future Islands.
The Bloody Beetroots, Erol Alkan, A.Trak, iolanda, Zarko, Logic1000, Macacos do Chinês marked the three days of the festival on the WTF Clubbing Stage, while Jel, Luís Franco-Bastos, Guilherme Duarte, Cebola Mol, Ana Arrebentinha and others made people laugh – a lot – on the Comedy Stage. The Coreto and the new Galp Fado Café were also some of the most applauded shows during the three days of the 17th edition of NOS Alive, with performances by Teresinha Landeiro, Luísa Amaro or Diogo Clemente and Bombazine, Baleia Baleia Baleia, Luís Severo or Inês Monstro.
Over three days and 13 hours of non-stop music, the Passeio Marítimo de Algés hosted 122 artists and 112 performances on the festival’s seven stages. The reduced mobility platforms, managed by Santa Casa da Misericódia de Lisboa and Everything is New, welcomed around 300 people with reduced mobility and pregnant women over the three days, who were able to watch the concerts on the NOS Stage, Heineken Stage and WTF Clubbing in greater comfort.
NOS Alive returns to its usual home on July 9, 10 and 11, 2026, raising the bar even higher in terms of the line-up and structures for welcoming the best audience. Always with Buraka Som Sistema.
