The Heavy’s meteoric rise was rapid. In the first year of the 2007 debut album, Great Vengeance And Furious Fire the band was a hit in the United States, being praised by publications such as Rolling Stone and SPIN. A live performance of ‘How You Like Me Now?’, the lead single from The House That Dirt Built (2009), on The Late Show With David Letterman catapulted them straight into the American top of mind.
The track was chosen for a Super Bowl commercial in 2010 and appeared in Mark Wahlberg’s serious ‘The Fighter’. Soon, music became part of US culture. It became so ubiquitous that it was played over the loudspeakers at Barack Obama’s headquarters to declare his victory in the 2012 presidential election.
The Heavy’s invasion of the global subconscious was just beginning. ‘Short Change Hero’, also from the album, has become a constant presence on TV soundtracks, reached new generations as the theme for Batman: Arkham City and several Borderlands games, and even real war zones with the US Special Forces.
The third album of 2012, The Glorious Dead catapulted tracks like ‘Same ‘Ol” and ‘What Makes A Good Man?’ into commercials, TV shows, games and the trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful 8. The band continued to expand the scope and ambition of their sound throughout Hurt & The Merciless (2016) e Sons (2019).
In 2023, after a related three-year break, they returned with their sixth album, AMEN an electrifying whirlwind of 60s R&B riffs, metal influences and gospel harmonies, making it the freshest and most revitalized album of their career so far.
