Floating Points, aka Samuel Sheperd, takes to the Heineken Stage on July 12th at the 16th edition of NOS Alive. Tickets here.

With new music released at the beginning of the last quarter of 2023, Floating Points have today shared a new single, ‘Birth4000’, released by Ninja Tune.

In September 2023, the Hollywood Bowl filled up to witness the Mercury Prize-nominated masterpiece Floating Points, Promises (2021). Shepherd has assembled an all-star cast, including Shabaka Hutchings, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori, with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson conducting.

The album, which features Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra, was the highest rated album of 2021 by Pitchfork, as well as being named “Album of the Year” by Mojo and Time Magazine, and being hailed as “one of the greatest modern jazz albums” by Resident Advisor.

Shepherd devoted much of 2023 to composing his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics. “Mere Mortals” will be presented by the San Francisco Ballet and will premiere in January 2024.

At the beginning of the last quarter of 2023, ‘Birth4000′ is published. Sonically quite different from those endeavors, it presents an intense and harsh energy. Officially released on October 17, the track has already had a lasting impact on dance floors this summer, being played by Four Tet at their headline show at Finsbury Park, as well as during their b2b with Caribou at Glastonbury 2023. The track has also appeared in the sets of Peggy Gou, Ben UFO, Call Super, Palms Trax and others, as well as Floating Points’ surprise performance at this year’s NTS summer party.
