M.I.A. is the latest confirmation for the third day of NOS Alive, July 8, at the Heineken Stage. With her newly launched single, M.I.A. debuts at the 14th edition of the festival, which takes place at Passeio Marítimo de Algés, on 6, 7, 8 and 9 July 2022, on the same day as Metallica, Royal Blood and St. Vincent.

M.I.A. began in 2000 as a visual artist, designer and filmmaker in East London, before beginning his music career in 2002. In early 2004, she gained prominence with the singles “Sunshowers” and “Galang” which led her to number 11 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sale. In 2005 she released her first album, Arular, followed by Kala in 2007, both critically acclaimed, with the highlight of the single from the second album, “Paper Planes”, which reached the world top 20 and number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2010 she released her third album, Maya, and two years later released the single “Bad Girls”, in anticipation of her fourth album Matangi (released in 2013). Around the same time, she played at the Halftime Show of Super Bowl XLVI, alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj. In 2016 she released her fifth album, AIM, and in 2020 reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart as a feature on Travis Scott’s song “Franchise”. In November 2021 he released “Babylon”, the new single that follows the already edited “CRTL” (2020) and “OHMNI 202091” (2020).

M.I.A. is one of the few artists with home nominations for one of these awards: Oscars, Grammys, Brits, Mercury Prize and Alternative Turner Prize, and the first artist of South Asian descent to be nominated for Oscars and Grammy awards in the same year (2008). She was also nominated as one of the artists who defined the 2000s by Rolling Stone, and one of the 100 most influential people of 2009 by Time. In 2019, M.I.A. was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in this year’s anniversary tributes for her contribution and service to music. In 2022, she will arrive to Passeio Marítimo de Algés, to perform on the Heineken Stage on July 8 of NOS Alive’2, for the first time.
